Spotlight on the Social Media Subcommittee

The Social Media Subcommittee, chaired by Farah Nawaz Khan, MD, focuses on enhancing the College’s messaging and outreach via social media channels to raise public awareness about asthma and allergic disease, while bringing attention to ACAAI events and resources. Members of the subcommittee are social media influencers who communicate on a regular basis with their followers about allergy and asthma issues. They also collaborate with each other and with the College to amplify evidence-based health information.

“Social media is a part of our health care system whether we want to admit it or not,” says Dr. Khan. “Many of our patients obtain health information from a variety of social media platforms. As allergists, we’re in a unique position to shed light on our specialty and not only to highlight the conditions we take care of, but also to emphasize the importance of the care we provide. We are rarely the very first provider that the patient interacts with in the health care system and that often influences the care we provide. I’m excited about the work the Subcommittee is doing to help raise awareness around allergic conditions and to help promote current evidence-based guidelines.”

The Subcommittee is enthusiastic about partnering with the College to ensure that information seen by our followers is useful in educating them about allergic and immunologic conditions. The group is working together to answer questions, provide valuable tips and shed light on emerging news.

Furthermore, members of the Subcommittee assist the College in determining the types of content that will resonate with, and bring value to, members in various practice settings and career stages.
