Spotlight on Committee Collaboration

Members from the Drug Allergy Committee and the Clinical Programs, Patient Safety and Quality Committee are collaborating on the development of an online repository for drug allergy protocols. This dynamic platform will be housed on the College Learning Connection (CLC). It will allow accurate, up-to-date educational content regarding drug allergies to be easily accessed by College members.

The workgroup is currently focusing on two antibiotic categories: penicillin and macrolides. They are gathering skin testing and desensitization protocol data and working on content templates for the online library. Ideally, it will become an ongoing project with annual updates and additional drug categories added over time (i.e., chemotherapeutic agents, biologics, NSAIDs, excipients).

“We feel this project will benefit College members by providing greater access to up-to-date information related to drug allergy in this dynamic and ever-changing environment,” said Mary Hudelson, MD, FACAAI, former chair of the Clinical Programs, Patient Safety and Quality Committee who initiated the project. “Utilizing this information and protocols will improve the care and outcomes for our patients who suffer with drug allergies.”

This project exemplifies how two College committees, one under the Science Council and one under the Education Council, can work together to develop an important resource for our members.

Have a project idea of your own? Discuss it with your committee chair so a project form can be completed by July 8 for 2025 funding consideration.  Be sure to read the Q & A with Dr. Mahr to get his tips on how to make the proposal successful.
