Your leadership’s decisions

The following are key actions taken by the Executive Committee during its March 8 meeting.

  • Ratified the nomination of Jeff Demain, MD, FACAAI, Brian Kelly, MD, MA, FACAAI, Phillip Jones, MD, FACAAI, Mansi Kanuga, MD, FACAAI, David Kaufman, MD, FACAAI and Kelly Maples, MD, FACAAI for consideration to serve on the ABAI Board of Directors for a 6-year term beginning in 2023.
  • Modified the award criteria for the ACAAI Distinguished Fellow and International Distinguished Fellow Awards to reflect that these can be awarded to individuals posthumously.
  • Ratified the decision to translate a number of public-focused, College COVID-19 resources into Spanish.
  • Ratified the decision to develop a webinar for Spanish speaking health care providers regarding COVID-19 vaccines and associated reactions.
  • Ratified the decision to join ARIA as a Scientific Society member at no cost, and designate Michael Blaiss, MD, FACAAI and Dana Wallace, MD, FACAAI as our primary representatives/contacts.
  • Ratified the decision to promote the COVID-19 Vaccine Allergy Case Registry developed by Massachusetts General Hospital to ACAAI members.
  • Modified the College’s “Ask the Allergist” web feature so that it no longer solicits live questions from the public, but still offers answers to common questions in a Q & A format.
  • Approved the House of Delegates’ Resolutions – 2020-01: Continuation of Covered Telehealth Services and 2020-02: Advocate for physician-led team-based care.
  • Approved the Dermatology Committee’s request to develop a College statement on nickel allergy.
  • Ratified the reappointment of Alnoor Malick, MD, FACAAI and John Seyerle, MD, FACAAI as the College’s 2021 Delegate and Alternate Delegate respectively to the AMA House of Delegates.
  • Requested the Advocacy Council develop two articles for inclusion in College Insider every year highlighting the benefits of AMA membership and encouraging College members to join.
  • Approved restarting the previously approved nurse practitioner/physician assistant partnership campaign, which was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and allocating funding in 2021 for its completion.
  • Approved the 2021-2023 strategic plan, including the estimated budget for the implementation of the 2021 tactics.
  • Approved the new name for the 2021-2023 strategic plan: “Vision Forward: Our 3-year Strategic Initiative to Advance the Specialty.”
  • Approved contracting The Harris Poll to redesign, administer, analyze and report on the 2022 membership survey as part of the College’s 2021/2022 strategic initiatives.
  • Allocated $5,600 in the 2021 budget to enable the Infectious Diseases and International Travel Committee to work with Perception Solutions, Inc. to conduct a statistical analysis of MedAire data on inflight allergic emergencies.
