Your Leadership’s Decisions

The following are key actions taken by the Board of Regents at the Nov. 7 meeting and by the Executive Committee during its Dec. 17 teleconference.

  • Approved the HOD leadership nominations of M. Razi Rafeeq, MD, FACAAI (vice speaker) and Andrej Petrov, MD, FACAAI (recording secretary); and Super-delegates Michael J. Palumbo, MD, FACAAI; Christopher Randolph, MD, FACAAI; Don Bukstein, MD, FACAAI; J. Wesley Sublett, MD, FACAAI; and Michael Volz, MD, FACAAI.
  • Approved the applications for Fellowship, Promotion to Fellowship, Scientific Fellow, Membership, Allied Health, Fellow-in-Training and Resident/Medical Student Membership as recommended by the Credentials Committee.
  • Approved granting retired and emeritus status for fellows and members as recommended by the Credentials Committee.
  • Ratified the decision to contract with Valiteq, Inc. to provide ACAAI members with discounted pricing for USP 797-compliant supplies and incubation/reporting services.
  • Appointed William Silvers, MD, FACAAI (Emeritus) as a trustee-at-large on the Foundation Board for a four-year term beginning Nov. 12, 2019.
  • Requested staff identify or develop a video tutorial for committee and task force members on how to use Basecamp.
  • Approved the proposed 2020 Budget.
  • Approved the Travel Policy for Board members pertaining to international travel as presented. 
  • Approved the College’s House of Delegates 2020-2021 Strategic Plan as presented.
  • Approved the Governance Manual copy as it relates to the revised governance structure of the HOD.
  • Approved the recommended 2019-2021 committee and council appointments.
  • Approved the proposed volunteer recognition program.
  • Approved the appointment of Anne Ellis, MD, MSc, FRCPC, FACAAI and Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, MD, PhD, FACAAI as deputy editors of Annals for a one-year term beginning January 2020.
  • Approved appointing the following members as Associate Editors of Annals for a one-year term beginning January 2020: Mariana Castells, MD, PhD, FACAAI; Larry Borish, MD, FACAAI; Mitch Grayson, MD, FACAAI; Matt Greenhawt, MD, MBA, MSc, FACAAI; Jay Lieberman, MD, FACAAI; Jonathan Spergel, MD, PhD, FACAAI; and John Oppenheimer, MD, FACAAI.
  • Approved the following reviewers to the Annals Editorial Board beginning in January 2020, for a two-year term: Stephen Leblanc, MD; Peck Ong, MD, FACAAI; Amy O’Connell, MD, PhD; Marcus Shaker, MD, FACAAI.
  • Approved the proposal to develop the ACAAI Review for the Allergy and Immunology Board, 4th Edition.
  • Approved the recommendation of the Annual Meeting Program Committee chair and vice chair and the Education Council chair to nominate Brian T. Kelly, MD, MA as the vice chair of the Annual Meeting Program Committee for 2020.
  • Approved the development of a cobranded College/AAAAI curated series of quarterly technology and telemedicine “Ted Talk” style sessions in 2020 to be posted to each organization’s own website and/or YouTube channel.
  • Approved the creation of an exhibit hall technology hub at the 2020 Annual Scientific Meeting and inviting vendors related to the designated theme to exhibit in the technology hub.
  • Appointed the following members to serve on the Advocacy Council Board for 2019-2021: Warner Carr, MD, FACAAI as Advocacy Council vice chair; Erica Gonzalez-Reyes, MD, FACAAI and Alnoor Malick, MD, FCAAI to serve their second two-year terms; and Melinda Rathkopf, MD, FACAAI to serve her first two-year term.
  • Requested staff to work with the Fellows-in-Training and Training Program Directors’ Committees to develop a plan for the writing, review and update of FIT Corner questions.
  • Ratified the decision to send an ACAAI Foundation survey to members and non-members to gather information prior to the Foundation’s 2020 strategic planning meeting.
  • Appointed Brad Chipps, MD, FACAAI (Chair), Joseph Forester, MD, FACAAI, Kathleen May, MD, FACAAI, John Oppenheimer, MD, FACAAI, Jim Tracy, DO, FACAAI, Gailen Marshall, MD, PhD, FACAAI (ex officio) and Allen Meadows, MD, FACAAI (ex officio) to the Annals Editor-in-Chief Search Committee and request the group to recommend a proposed candidate to the Board of Regents in May 2020.
  • Approved the Annals editor-in-chief search timeline as proposed.
  • Approved allocating funds in 2020 for the travel/hotel and other expense associated with the Annals editor-in-chief search process as presented.
  • Authorized the Annals Editor-in-Chief Search Committee to negotiate an 18-month orientation/training salary (from 7/1/20 – 12/31/21) to the individual selected to serve as the new 2022-2026 Annals editor-in-chief, and travel-related costs associated with such duties and present their recommendations to the Board of Regents for consideration in May 2020.
  • Informed the Food Allergy in Schools Guideline Panel that the College will endorse the document titled, Prevention and Management of Allergic Reactions to Food in Child Care Centers and Schools: Practice Guidelines and requested it be considered for submission to Annals for publication.
  • Requested J. Allen Meadows, MD, FACAAI; Luz Fonacier, MD, FACAAI; Mark Corbett, MD, FACAAI; and Michael Blaiss, MD, FACAAI discuss the potential implications of the College’s endorsement of the Joint Guidelines on the Primary Prevention of Food Allergy Through Nutrition: A Consensus Statement From the AAAAI, ACAAI and CSAAI, during the Jan. 11 joint ACAAI/AAAAI leadership meeting upon gathering additional feedback from food allergy experts, and authorized the president to decide if ACAAI endorsement should be granted.
  • Requested the Asthma Committee and Anaphylaxis Committee update the College’s Emergency Epinephrine Toolkit to include information on the nonpatient specific albuterol prescription guidance for school districts, and to recommend whether the expanded kit should be renamed School Emergency Medication Tool Kit.
  • Requested the Asthma Committee review the Update on Selected Topics in Asthma Management 2020: A Report from the 4th EPR-4 Working Group and submit comments for leadership review and posting to the public comment site before the deadline of Jan. 6.
  • Approved forming a joint task force with the American Rhinologic Society (ARS) to develop the CRSwNP online shared decision-making tool.
  • Approved the development of yardsticks on chronic sinusitis/nasal polyposis and vocal cord dysfunction in 2020.
  • Approved extending the Joint ACAAI/AAAAI Board Review Course Agreement for an additional four-year cycle (through 2025).
  • Approved signing the EAACI/ACAAI Memorandum of Understanding to enable the College to hold a Sister Society Symposium at 2020 EAACI Meeting in London and engage in other possible collaborative activities in the future.
