Your leadership’s decisions

The following are key actions taken by the Board of Regents at the June 29 meeting and by the Executive Committee during its Sept. 10 teleconference.

  • Designated Orlando (Nov. 6-10 at Orange County Convention Center) as the site for the 2025 Annual Meeting.
  • Approved increasing the House of Delegates (HOD) Super-delegates from four to seven to comply with HOD restructuring of regions.
  • Reappointed Michael Blaiss, MD, FACAAI to a second term as ACAAI Executive Medical Director from 1/1/20 through 12/31/22.
  • Approved the proposed Qualifications and Responsibilities of JTFPP Primary Group and Workgroup Members document as requested by the JTFPP.
  • Appointed William Lumry, MD, FACAAI and Richard Gower, MD, FACAAI to serve as College representatives on an expert panel to update the WAO HAE guideline.
  • Accepted the Appointments Committee’s recommendation to have a designated position for a Fellow-in-Training and an Allied Health Professional available on select College committees that would not count toward the committee size limit.
  • Authorized the president to develop a diversity task force to identify the potential need for and interest in the establishment of a Diversity Committee.
  • Approved the following slate of Officers and Regents for election at the 2019 Annual Business Meeting:
    • President-Elect – Luz Fonacier, MD, FACAAI
    • Vice President – Mark Corbett, MD, FACAAI
    • Treasurer – Kathleen May, MD, FACAAI
    • Regents – Kevin Murphy, MD, FACAAI, John Seyerle, MD, FACAAI, and J. Wesley Sublett, MD, MPH, FACAAI
  • Invited Michael R. Nelson, MD, PhD, FACAAI to deliver the Bela Schick Lecture at the 2019 Annual Meeting.
  • Agreed to honor John Oppenheimer, MD, FACAAI and James Tracy, DO, FACAAI with the Distinguished Fellow Award; Stephen Holgate, MD, FACAAI (Honorary) with the International Distinguished Fellow Award; Paul Dowling, MD, FACAAI and Renata Engler, MD, FACAAI with the Distinguished Service Award; and Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, MD, FACAAI with the Woman in Allergy Award at the 2019 Annual Meeting.
  • Ratified the Executive Committee’s decision to honor N. Franklin Adkinson, Jr., MD, Louis Mendelson, MD, FACAAI (Emeritus) and James Wolfe, MD, FACAAI at the 2019 Annual Meeting with a special award in recognition of their work related to penicillin allergy testing.
  • Authorized the House of Delegates, in consultation with the Advocacy Council, to move forward as recommended and to develop a strategic plan including a specific implementation plan with budget to the EC/Board for formal consideration.
  • Approved the Foundation Board of Trustees’ request to conduct strategic planning for the ACAAI Foundation with half of the cost paid by the Foundation and half paid by the College.
  • Approved collaborating with the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders on the EGID University with the understanding there will be no cost to the College for its involvement.
  • Approved supporting a College Symposium at the WAC 2019 meeting in Lyon, France, Dec. 12-14 with Todd Mahr, MD, FACAAI and two other College members participating as program faculty.
  • Approved presenting the 2019 Gold-Headed Cane Award to Dana Wallace, MD, FACAAI during the Opening Session at the 2019 ACAAI Annual Meeting.
  • Ratified the appointment of Anne Ellis, MD, FACAAI as the College’s representative on the Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters from 7/1/19 through 6/30/24.
  • Approved to continue to support the Program Director’s Assembly Meeting scheduled Jan. 10-11, 2020 in Dallas.
  • Charged the New Allergists Committee to: 1) identify current content/resources of relevance to new allergists; 2) provide recommendations for new educational content and/or practice resources of relevance to new allergists; and 3) engage on DocMatter to support the development of an online new allergist community.
  • Retired the John G. McGovern named lectureship after the 2019 Annual Meeting.
  • Renewed the contract to enable Donald Leung, MD, FACAAI to continue to serve as Executive Editor for Annals for an additional two years effective Jan. 1, 2020.
  • Informed the JTFPP that the College supports the development of a Parameter/GRADE Guideline on Sinusitis as the next parameter/guideline developed.
  • Approved the draft budget submitted for the 2020 joint Board Review Course.
  • Authorized the president and executive medical director to work with the chair of the Asthma Committee to look into developing a white paper on steroid use to treat asthma for all ages.
  • Approved the distribution of a survey on biologics as proposed by the Asthma Committee contingent upon the removal of any questions not related to asthma.
  • Approved $9,500 to edit, reformat, design and print 5,000 copies of the newly developed Non-Allergic Rhinitis (NAR) brochure, and create three additional 2-page downloadable flyers on NAR related topics.
  • Appointed Todd Mahr, MD, FACAAI, Allen Meadows, MD, FACAAI and Luz Fonacier, MD, FACAAI as ACAAI Delegates to the World Allergy Organization House of Delegates.
  • Approved inviting two DocMatter staff members to staff a booth at the 2019 Annual Meeting.
  • Approved contracting with Social Driver to redevelop the College’s member and patient websites.
  • Authorized the president-elect and executive medical director to work with staff to investigate holding the summer 2020 Board and Corporate Council meetings in Washington, DC in May in conjunction with the AAN Capitol Hill Day.
  • Appointed Bradley Chipps, MD, FACAAI to assume the position of Publications Committee chair to serve a two-year renewable term.
