The Clinical Immunology & Autoimmune Diseases Committee plays an important role in developing resources to educate members on key topics within its subject matter. The Committee recently conducted a survey to gain insight into how ACAAI members manage Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEI). The survey covered diagnosis, categorization and management strategies for primary immunodeficiencies, and identified knowledge gaps in this area.
“More than one third (39%) of survey respondents reported that they do not feel comfortable managing many categories of IEI, and another 61% indicated they needed more education on using genetic testing for the diagnosis of IEI,” said Barbara Ariue, MD, FACAAI, a member of the committee and the project’s lead. “This presents an important opportunity for our committee to develop resources that address some of the knowledge gaps that we identified through the survey.”
The committee is currently working on a series of educational webinars on genetic testing that will be offered later this year, a proposed session at the Annual Meeting in Orlando, as well as informational material for clinicians and patients that will be posted on the College’s member and public websites.

Do you have a project idea for your committee? The College encourages committees to initiate projects that benefit members and their patients. If you think of a potential project, discuss it with your chair to ensure it gets considered. If it could benefit you and your practice, chances are it could help other practicing allergists!
