At the 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, James Tracy, DO, FACAAI was installed as the 2024-25 College president. He is a partner with Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Associates of Omaha, Nebraska, and has academic appointments at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University. He helps manage 19 outreach clinics throughout Nebraska.
A graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1984, he has been practicing allergy and immunology for 34 years. He completed his fellowship in allergy and immunology at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center.
Dr. Tracy has served on the ACAAI Advocacy Council, the Annual Meeting Program Committee, the Board of Regents, the Budget/Finance Committee, the Ethics Committee, and the ACAAI Foundation Board. Dr. Tracy was recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the College in 2019. He was chosen to deliver the Bela Schick Lecture and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2020.
The philosophy of servant leadership will be central to Dr. Tracy’s initiatives this year, which is a style of leadership characterized by the empowerment and support of teams rather than a hierarchical model. This philosophy can be relevant for individual practicing allergists, the health care team, or in volunteer roles for the College – with the ultimate goal of excellent patient care.
Dr. Tracy also plans to address cost pressures and reimbursement, changing business and employment models and the proliferating presence of artificial (or augmented) intelligence being applied to the practice of medicine.
He plans to keep the momentum going on CAPE and CA2PER, two projects focusing on community-based opportunities for teaching and research, initiated by Past Presidents Dr. Gailen D. Marshall, Jr., and Dr. Kathleen May. He also has a keen interest in education around the topic of gene editing technology, especially as it relates to the practice of allergy and clinical immunology.
Dr. Tracy is honored to serve the College membership and is well positioned to support practicing allergists by serving the current and future needs of College members as he leads the organization in the coming year.
