Help your patients keep up with vaccine news

Your patients may be coming to you with questions about whether they should be seeking vaccines for themselves or for their children. You can help them stay fully informed about the fact that those with allergies and asthma are prone to more serious respiratory infections if they come down with the flu or Covid-19.

The College has developed two new web pages that can assist your patients in staying informed on the benefits of vaccines to prevent serious infections.

Why vaccination matters for patients with allergies and asthma
Respiratory infections such as influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 remain a major source of morbidity for patients with asthma and allergic disease. These illnesses can exacerbate airway inflammation, provoke severe exacerbations, and increase the risk of hospitalization. While most allergists are aware of these risks, patients often need clear, evidence-based guidance to understand why vaccination is such an important part of protecting their health.

Addressing patient concerns about safety
Despite the clear benefits, many patients with asthma and allergies remain hesitant about vaccination. Common concerns include fear of triggering allergic reactions or uncertainty about vaccine safety in those with chronic conditions. This is where allergists play a critical role: patients look to you as trusted specialists to help separate science from misinformation.

To support these conversations, the College has developed two new patient-friendly resources that address both the importance and the safety of vaccination:

For physicians, the College has also created an Outbreak and Vaccine Resource Center, located on the member website, designed to keep you updated on the latest vaccine and immunization news and resources. The page is frequently updated and includes information on outbreaks of respiratory illnesses, vaccine recommendations, and vaccine safety communications.

In addition, watch an informative webinar the College hosted on Sept. 17 titled Vaccine Knowledge Booster 2025: Evidence & Impact.

Your role as a trusted voice
Allergists are uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and patient decision-making. By encouraging patients to review these College resources, you reinforce the message that vaccines are both vital and safe. You also empower patients to take an active role in protecting themselves against preventable illness. Directing patients to the College’s vaccine pages can help ensure they stay protected and breathing easier all year long.
