Connecting clinicians with allergy-related resources

Non-allergist physicians and advanced practice clinicians often encounter patients with allergy symptoms, skin conditions or immunological conditions that might be beyond their level of experience, or maybe their patients’ symptoms are ongoing despite treatment.

The College’s health care providers page  on our public website provides information for physicians and NPs/PAs. The web page houses several microsites that help explain when to consult an allergist/immunologist, provides specific information for NPs/PAs, and more, including:

  • Time for an Allergist – raises awareness about the value of allergy specialist care and when it is appropriate to partner with an allergy/asthma specialist.
  • Information for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants – facts and resources for NPs/PAs on the conditions allergists treat and when to consult one.
  • Type 2 inflammation – allergists/immunologists are well versed in the connection between various allergic conditions caused by type 2 inflammation. Primary care clinicians can best help their patients by learning more about this spectrum of conditions and how allergists/immunologists can help. Our microsite provides information they (and their patients/caregivers) need.
  • Eczema in skin of color – an explanation and examples illustrating how skin conditions like atopic dermatitis appear on different skin tones, especially those found on black and brown skin. This microsite helps with recognizing and diagnosing AD and related conditions in skin of color.
  • Clinical trial resources – opportunities for medical research.

Allergists/immunologists, physicians and NPs/PAs often work together to keep people healthy and help patients feel their best. College resources can assist physicians and advanced practice clinicians in identifying which patients can benefit the most from allergy specialist care.
