Amplify awareness of allergic conditions

It will be here before you know it – National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month is in May.  You’ll want to be prepared for this opportunity to join the conversation about  asthma and allergies.

What kinds of things can you and your practice do to amplify awareness of allergic conditions and the care allergists/immunologists provide? Find ideas in the College’s Asthma and Allergy Awareness Toolkit.

You’ve got time to plan ahead for activities, such as:

  • Health fairs or screenings – Are park districts, community centers, YMCAs, hospitals or other groups in your area having upcoming health fairs? Consider being part of them by hosting free asthma screenings. Our Asthma Screening Event Planning Guide offers ideas and resources to help.
  • Guest lectures – Senior centers, libraries, schools and hospitals often seek speakers to present talks to the public. Check locally for an opportunity to share your expertise on allergies and asthma. Use our patient-friendly PowerPoint presentation for a factual virtual or in-person talk.
  • Media coverage – Get the word out about spring allergies! You can be the expert source in stories about managing allergic conditions and how a board-certified allergist can help. Read our tips for contacting your local media.

We’ll be covering National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month more as it approaches. There are many ways you can maximize this time when the spotlight shines on allergists/immunologists and the conditions you – and we’ll share easy ideas.
