Your leadership’s decisions – Spring 2022 Committee Insider

The following are key actions taken by the ACAAI Executive Committee during its Jan. 25 and March 29 meetings.

  • Ratified the appointment of the following individuals to the Executive Medical Director Search Committee: Mark Corbett, MD, FACAAI (chair), Michael Foggs, MD, FACAAI, Gailen Marshall, Jr., MD, PhD, Kathleen May, MD, FACAAI and Maureen Petersen, MD, FACAAI.
  • Ratified the decision to update the College’s Asthma and Atopic Dermatitis Yardsticks and to provide an honorarium to each of the eight authors assigned to the project.
  • Ratified the decision to support a College-sponsored Sister Society Symposium on the topic of Pediatric Asthma during the July 1-3 EAACI Congress in Prague, Czech Republic.
  • Requested the Bylaws Committee to draft a proposed amendment to the bylaws to enable the Annals Editor-in-Chief to serve as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the ACAAI Board of Regents.
  • Accepted the preliminary unaudited Financial Statements for the period ending 12/31/2021.
  • Approved the redesigned bi-annual membership survey as presented.
  • Allocated an additional $1,000 in the 2022 budget for membership survey respondent incentives, which will be offered in the form of a drawing for 10 $100 Amazon gift cards.
  • Approved the establishment of the ACAAI Annals Fellows-in-Training Award Program as outlined to recognize the author(s) of best Annals articles submitted by ACAAI member FITs.
  • Requested the Bylaws Committee review the current eligibility criteria for Scientific Fellow and develop proposed revisions that remove the ambiguous language and tighten the eligibility requirements.
  • Asked that the HOD New England Region be informed that, while the College appreciates the proposed resolutions they presented during the Nov. 2021 HOD Meeting, the ACAAI Leadership elected to not take any formal action on these resolutions at this time.
  • Ratified the appointment of Jay Lieberman, MD, FACAAI to the Food Allergy and Research Education (FARE) Advisory Committee that will provide guidance to FARE’s new Food Allergy Prevention Awareness and Education Campaign.
  • Ratified the nomination of Gailen Marshall, Jr., MD, PhD, FACAAI to the 2022 WAO Nominating Committee.
  • Ratified the decision to present a Sister Society Symposium at the Oct. 13-15, 2022, World Allergy Congress in Istanbul, Turkey with Mark Corbett, MD, FACAAI, Kathleen May, MD, FACAAI and James Sublett, MD, FACAAI as presenters.
  • Approved the request from David Bernstein, MD, FACAAI to provide funding in 2022, continue to fund the SCIT Surveillance Program for three years, and forward his request to the Budget/Finance Committee for incorporation in the 2023/2024 budgets.
  • Accepted the preliminary Financial Statements for the period ending 2/28/22.
  • Approved the proposed Luisa Businco Memorial Lecture policy outlining the purpose, criteria and selection of speakers.
  • Approved the 2022 North American Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Congress (NAPAAC) scientific program as requested by the joint NAPAAC Program Committee.
  • Approved the recommendation of the Gold Headed Cane Award Committee to feature Gary N. Gross, MD, FACAAI, John Oppenheimer, MD, FACAAI and James L. Sublett, MD, FACAAI as candidates for the 2022 Gold Headed Cane Award and forward their names to the Board of Regents with a recommendation they be approved for inclusion on the 2022 Gold Headed Cane Award Ballot.
  • Appointed J. Allen Meadows, MD, FACAAI to serve as the Advocacy Council’s Associate Executive Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs beginning July 1, 2022 and then transition to Executive Director of Advocacy and Government Affairs beginning July 1, 2023.
  • Requested staff work with Santiago Martinez, MD, FACAAI and Vivian Hernandez-Trujillo, MD, FACAAI to develop a 60-minute Spanish language webinar on Anaphylaxis with two speakers that would be offered to both College members and nonmembers, and approach other Latin American medical organizations to request their help promoting the free program to their members.
  • Modified the International Travel Policy for College speakers as follows: “ACAAI may decide not to provide speakers for international meetings that take place in areas with elevated travel advisories (i.e., Level 3 or higher) by the U.S. State Department within three months of the first day of the meeting. The ACAAI president will make the final determination upon consultation with the Executive Committee.”
  • Approved continuing the Livestream sessions presented from the main plenary session room and set the fee for Livestream access to the 2022 Annual Meeting at the same rate as the fee charged for in-person participation (early rate: $495 members/$725 non-members).
  • Approved setting the fee for in-person and Livestream access to the 2022 Thursday Food Allergy Program at $195 and the Friday Literature Review Program at $195, for both members and non-members.
  • Approved providing all 2022 Annual Meeting registrants (excluding exhibitors) with complimentary access to the captured on-demand sessions at no charge following the conclusion of the Annual Meeting.
  • Approved contracting with Churchill Downs to host the 2022 Annual Meeting Welcome Reception.
