Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program

As the leader in advocacy for allergy and immunology, the College’s Advocacy Council has a long history of advocating for the Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program (PSLRP). The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is using initial funding to implement the program, and recently released the first-ever application for the Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program. The application deadline is July 20 at 7:30 pm ET.

Congress has funded PSLRP two years in a row, providing $5 million in funding for PSLRP in FY 2022 and $10 million in funding in FY 2023. However, these initial investments are not nearly enough to fully address the significant shortages of pediatric subspecialists that exist nationwide.

In FY 2024, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the College and other medical specialty societies support the request of $30 million for PSLRP, an increase of $20 million over current program level funding so the program can be scaled up to meet existing needs. We will continue to support the goal of making loan repayment for pediatric subspecialists a reality – an enormous victory for the pediatric subspecialty and patient advocacy community!
