The College’s Fellows-in-Training (FIT) Committee plays a key role in addressing the unique needs of early-career allergists. Committee members collaborate to turn ideas into impactful initiatives that support professional growth and empower the next generation of allergists.
Navigating career development
“I’ve really enjoyed the impact we’ve been able to make this year on the FIT Committee,” said the Chair, Kylie Jungles, MD. “Over the past year, we’ve heard from FIT members that they would like additional resources for career planning and general advice on landing their first job after completing their fellowship. We’ve been able to team up with AllergyTalk to create two podcast episodes with Melinda Rathkopf, MD, MBA, FACAAI, Chair of the Practice Management Committee. She provided valuable insights related to the job search process and what FITs should think about before and after getting the job offer. We are excited to share her advice with our FIT members.” Listen to the 2-part podcast today!
Building on the momentum, the FIT Committee is also planning a webinar in August, which will include a panel discussion with recent FIT graduates about their key takeaways related to career planning and the job search process. The webinar will include a live Q&A, giving participants the chance to get real-time advice from peers who have recently navigated the transition to practice. Register today!
As the Annual Meeting approaches, the committee has also been busy planning the educational program centered on the theme “Transition from FIT to Clinical Practice.” Highlights include Dr. Marissa Love, Vice Chair of the New Allergists Committee, speaking about leadership and professional involvement in the field of allergy and immunology. Dr. Travis Miller, Chair of the Advocacy Council, will provide guidance on contract negotiation.
Preparing for the board exam
The Committee continues to enhance the FIT Board Review Corner, developed by FITs, for FITs, with help from mentors on the College’s Scientific and Program Directors Committees. Each academic year, 120 new questions are added to help members prepare for their board exams with high-quality questions.
Stepping into leadership
The FIT Section will be electing its next Junior FIT Representative to the ACAAI Board of Regents at the Annual Meeting. This is a unique opportunity to gain leadership experience and advocate for resources for early-career allergists. FITs who are passionate about shaping the future of allergy and immunology should view the position description and consider applying to join this team of future leaders. If you know a FIT who would thrive in this role encourage them to apply!
