As Congress returns from its recess, several important policies and legislative proposals aimed at improving patient access to care are waiting for consideration.
One issue gaining strong bipartisan momentum is prior authorization (PA) reform. Leaders in the administration, CMS, and Congress have all signaled a clear commitment to streamlining and improving the PA process.
A key piece of legislation in this effort is the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3514 / S. 1816). This bill specifically targets prior authorization within the Medicare Advantage program, aiming to simplify the process for certain items and services. While narrowly focused, it represents a critical step toward ensuring PA functions as intended – supporting care, not delaying it.
The College is proud to be a member of the Alliance for Patient Access (AfPA), one of many coalitions we collaborate with to advance patient care. AfPA strongly supports this legislation – and you can lend your support too by personally signing a letter to Congressional leadership to voice support for this bill and urge its inclusion in any broader health care package moving forward. A sincere thank you to all who have already signed on!
