Physician payment reform is a top priority

Last week, the College/Advocacy Council joined about 120 national specialty societies and state medical associations in sending a letter of appreciation for the introduction of H.R. 2474, the Strengthening Medicare for Patients and Providers Act. The legislation is a key element of a significant, thorough physician payment reform plan. The legislation spotlights the need to preserve access to care for Medicare beneficiaries by tying an annual provider update to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI).

The new formulary would better enable practices to respond to regulatory rules, program performance adjustments and inflation. It will allow physicians to budget for investing in their practices and continuing to provide high quality/high value care to their patients.
Physician payment reform is a top priority of the Advocacy Council, and we will continue to advocate on behalf of our members. We’ll monitor and keep you updated on this issue.
