When clinical guidelines or practice parameters are developed by the Joint Task Force on Practice Parameters (JTFPP), ACAAI and AAAAI members have the opportunity to review and comment on draft documents before publication.
We invite you to review the draft of the 2026 Allergen Immunotherapy Practice Parameter Update and provide your comments by Monday, Aug. 31. This is an important opportunity to help your colleagues shape the specialty.
The update to the 2011 Practice Parameter introduces several new concepts, provides updated safety information, and expands discussion of several topics. Key changes include:
- Expanded information on sublingual allergen immunotherapy (SLIT).
- Recommendations addressing incrementally older and younger patients and patients with comorbidities.
- Greater emphasis on asthma as a risk factor for serious systemic reactions with subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT), including the importance of documenting asthma control at the time of AIT prescription and administration.
- Guidance on AIT for patients with controlled severe asthma, emphasizing the safety of SLIT while recognizing that SCIT may be used with appropriate monitoring.
- Recommendations regarding alternative forms of AIT.
