Dr. Fineman is the recipient of the Gold Headed Cane Award, which is given for demonstrating the highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity. The gold headed cane is a concept used by many medical schools and specialty societies to recognize outstanding physicians. Dr. Fineman is in private practice at Atlanta Allergy & Asthma in Marietta, GA. He served as president of ACAAI in 2011- 2012 and served on the board of the World Allergy Organization. He is currently president of The Allergists’ Foundation (formerly called the ACAAI Foundation).

Michael Nelson, MD, PhD, FACAAI

Dr. Nelson is a recently retired U.S. Army Medical Corps Colonel and president of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. He is a former Director of Medical Education and Chief Consultant in the U.S. Army Office of the Surgeon General. He is a professor in the Department of Medicine and Department of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

Michael Levin, MD, PhD, FACAAI

Dr. Levin is head of the Division of Asthma and Allergy at the University of Cape Town and a member of the board of directors of the World Allergy Organization.  His research focuses on food allergy, including alpha gal allergy as well as urban-rural differences in allergy prevalence.  He has advocated for increased access to care for patients worldwide, with a special focus on Africa.

Travis Miller, MD, FACAAI

Dr. Miller is in private practice in Roseville, CA at The Allergy Station. He attended medical school at UCLA and completed his allergy fellowship at University of Michigan. Dr. Miller has taught pre-medical and medical students, residents, fellows, physician assistant and nurse practitioner trainees for nearly 20 years. He has worked with new graduates, engaged in advocacy initiatives and has served multiple committees and the ACAAI Board of Regents.

He continues to actively pursue research and has presented regionally, nationally and abroad. Dr. Miller has received numerous awards for teaching, volunteerism and patient advocacy.

James Tracy, DO, FACAAI

Dr. Tracy is in private practice in Omaha, NE and has served the ACAAI for more than 25 years. He has served on multiple College committees as well as the Board of Regents and is current chair the Advocacy Council. Dr. Tracy’s cutting-edge efforts working with CMS and AMA on the development of Alternative Payment Models for asthma have been at the forefront of health care reform. His leadership roles in both patient access as well as integration with local and state allergy societies have provided him an avenue to strongly advocate for the specialty and the patients we serve.

Susan Grupe

Susan Grupe, Director of Advocacy Administration for ACAAI, has been part of the allergy community since 1989. She began her career with the College assisting with preparation for the annual meeting and governance.  Beginning in 1995, her focus was solely with the Joint Council of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (JCAAI) until 2015, when the College assumed JCAAI and it became the Advocacy Council. Sue is the senior staff liaison for the Advocacy Council and works closely with the College’s House of Delegates.

Jennifer Pfeifer, CMPE

Jennifer Pfeifer is ACAAI’s Practice Management Manager. She works with the Practice Management Committee to develop resources for members and managers. Prior to working with ACAAI, Jennifer managed an independent internal medicine practice for six years and then worked for a large healthcare system managing a multi-specialty practice. Jennifer has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BS in Math/Computer Science from the University of Illinois. She is also a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) through MGMA.

Woman in Allergy

Mariana Castells, MD, PhD, FACAAI

Dr. Castells is a clinician, researcher and teacher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She is the Director of the Drug Hypersensitivity and Drug Desensitization Center and of the Mastocytosis Center. She has served as the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Training Program Director for more than 20 years.
