Former College president named WAO president-elect

Former ACAAI President (2015-16) Bryan Martin, MD, FACAAI, was selected as president-elect of the World Allergy Association (WAO) at its recent meeting in Lyons, France. College members Jonathan Bernstein, MD, FACAAI, David Peden, MD, FACAAI, and James Sublett, MD, FACAAI, were named to the WAO Board of Directors.

The WAO Nominating Committee (which included Luz Fonacier, MD, FACAAI) proposed the candidates for consideration to the WAO Board of Directors, who selected the officers and board members.

At the WAO conference, ACAAI members Michael C. Blaiss, executive medical director, Stanley Fineman, MD, FACAAI, past president, Todd A. Mahr, MD, FACAAI, immediate past president and Dr. Martin presented an ACAAI-supported symposium titled Emerging Topics in Allergy.

Dr. Martin was the moderator for this discussion on current allergy topics. Drs. Mahr, Blaiss and Fineman spoke on vaping in the United States, physician burnout in the United States and Europe and steps to curb burnout, literature on asthma phenotypes and new biologics in the management of the severe uncontrolled asthma patient.

WAO is an international organization with members from 99 regional and national allergology and clinical immunology societies from around the world. By collaborating with member societies, WAO works to provide educational outreach programs, symposia and lectureships.

The College has a long-standing collaboration with WAO on the Emerging Societies Program, which is a program to share information and experiences about new treatments for allergic disease and new indications for available therapies.
