Extortion scams targeting DEA registrants on the rise
The College has become aware that scams targeting Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registrants (that were problematic last spring) are once again on the rise. DEA registrants are reporting getting phone calls and emails by criminals identifying themselves as DEA employees or other law enforcement personnel. The phone numbers are typically masked to show the actual DEA registration support’s 800 number, so they can be very convincing. The DEA wants to make sure you are aware that a DEA employee would not contact a registrant and ask for money or threaten to suspend your DEA registration.
If you are contacted by anyone claiming to work for the DEA and seeking money or threatening to suspend your DEA registration, the DEA asks that you submit your experience through their Extortion Scam Online Reporting web page.
