Exciting changes are coming for allied health attendees at the 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting, Nov. 7 – 11, in Houston. This year there are opportunities to obtain more CE credits than ever before. Nursing CE can now be obtained for any of the general sessions that are designated for credit. When allied health professionals register for the Annual Meeting, the Advanced Practice (AP) and Allied Health (AH) courses are included in the fee. The entire meeting is again formatted into 90-minute blocks to maximize your time and educational opportunities.
AP plenary sessions on Friday morning, Nov. 8, include:
- Approaching rashes
- Biologics
- Vocal cord dysfunction
- When patient beliefs are different than your practice
Friday afternoon breakout sessions will include four different topics, including tree nut management, shared decision making to improve compliance, immunology PBL and how to treat the wheezing toddler.
Saturday morning, Nov. 9, all attendees will head to the main plenary session before we break out for the AH courses. Topics for Saturday’s AH course include:
- Angioedema
- Anaphylaxis
- Spirometry (hands-on workshop)
- Myth buster in the allergy practice
- Bullying in food allergic patients
- Office management for improving patient access to medications and services
On Sunday morning, Nov. 10, attendees will head to the main plenary session again before we start the AH courses. New this year, we are offering Sunday afternoon sessions to gain more knowledge and even more CE. Topics include:
- Atopic dermatitis
- Update on 797 and immunotherapy
- Non-IgE mediated food management
- Marijuana and e-cigarette use in allergic patients
If this was not exciting enough, there will be a new all-day workshop titled Allergen Extract Mixer Training Program on Sunday regarding USP 797 and changes to your practice. This course will have a separate fee and seats are limited. The information learned in this course will be invaluable for your practice.
There will be a special edition of the Hands On – The Use of Case Simulation for the Education of Allergy Emergencies – Spotlight on Anaphylaxis Workshop, just for Allied Health members on Saturday. There are a limited number of spots and there is a separate fee.
If you are looking for even more, consider coming early for the Thursday International Food Allergy Symposium on Nov. 7. This program has a separate fee and will be an incredible opportunity to enhance your food allergy knowledge from world renowned speakers.
Another exciting opportunity this year will be our AH reception on Friday afternoon and our networking lunch on Saturday. This is a great way to learn about the College while conversing with friends new and old. Attendees will also have plenty of opportunities to network with others during session breaks, the President’s Welcome reception on Friday night and the FIT Bowl on Saturday night.
