Dr. Luz Fonacier to receive the Gold Headed Cane Award

The Gold Headed Cane Award is given annually to a College Fellow who has demonstrated the highest standards of scientific excellence and integrity. This year, College Fellows selected Luz S. Fonacier, MD, FACAAI as the 2024 honoree. The award will be presented on Saturday, Oct. 26 during the Opening Ceremony at ACAAI’s 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dr. Fonacier is Professor of Medicine, Head of Allergy/Immunology and Training Program Director at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine-Long Island (currently a World Allergy Organization Center of Excellence). She has been a College Fellow for 31 years and was College president in 2020-21.

Dr. Fonacier has served as chair of seven ACAAI committees and is currently serving her final year on the ACAAI Board of Regents. She has presented the ACAAI Edward J. O’Connell Lectureship, John P. McGovern Lectureship, and Jean A. Chapman Memorial Lectureship. She received the Presidential Award of the Asian Pacific Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, was chair of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) and was a founding member and president of the International Association of Filipino Allergists and Immunologists.
