College-appointed State Delegates serve as the liaisons between local, state and regional societies; the Super Delegates in their region; and House of Delegates (HOD) leadership – to share intel on legislation that may adversely impact the specialty. They also build rapport with legislators, lobbyists and allergists within their state.
Requirements: Any College member in good standing can apply to become a State Delegate through the ACAAI HOD Nomination Process. State Delegates dedicate approximately one to two hours per month to this position; time may vary depending on advocacy activities.
State Delegates participate in periodic conference calls with their Super Delegate and the leaders of state/local societies to discuss local issues and HOD programs.
State Delegates are expected to participate in HOD webinars and attend in-person training sessions.
Term: College State Delegates serve 5-year terms, with the option to extend service for additional terms.
Responsibilities: College State Delegate responsibilities include monitoring local legislation; establishing and maintaining contacts with state legislators, colleagues, and local/state allergy societies.
College State Delegates also contact local/state allergy societies to secure support for Advocacy Council and HOD initiatives. They’re responsible for communicating advocacy news from the local/state societies to their Super Delegates, the HOD and Advocacy Council leaders.
Initially, College State Delegates will make introductory phone calls to local/state society presidents, share their personal contact information, and inquire as to any issues currently before the local/state society; they’ll serve as the liaison between the local/state societies, Super Delegates and the HOD. They’ll build networks with legislators, lobbyists, allergists, and members of societies within their state, as well as share intel on legislation that may impact the specialty.
Communication flow: When College State Delegates identify regulatory or legislative issues in their state, they share the information with their Super Delegate, the HOD speaker, the Advocacy Council chair and the executive director of advocacy and governmental affairs. They also communicate (to the College) national issues that may have local impact.

- Speak and communicate in a positive manner.
- Communicate only appropriate information.
- Support and/or advance College messaging only.
- Seek guidance/input from HOD/Advocacy Council leadership before responding to any issue.
Applications for College State Delegate positions in the following states will be accepted through February 28: Alabama, California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
