ACAAI 2025 Annual Meeting gets exceptional media coverage

The College’s 2025 Annual Meeting received tremendous media coverage. More than 290 stories ran in international, national, regional, and local news outlets, representing a reach of 3.9 billion.

The coverage started off strong with a profile of new ACAAI President Dr. Cherie Zachary, and went on to cover the broad range of topics presented at the meeting.

Drs. Cherie Zachary and Carla Davis were profiled in an online Healio piece that led up to the opening of the ACAAI meeting. The article explored the backgrounds of the two female physicians of color who will simultaneously lead the nation’s allergy associations for the first time in history. Both doctors spoke of their educations, how they became interested in the allergy/immunology specialty, their mentors, and what they hope to accomplish in their presidential years. Dr. Zachary noted that as a leader in the allergy/immunology space, she hopes to make sure the specialty is seen early on by all medical residents, and particularly residents of color.

The College sent its electronic press kit to more than 350 media outlets, and posted the releases to two news distribution platforms. The kit contained 12 news releases on topics covered during the annual meeting, ranging from thunderstorm asthma to respiratory diseases in those who have served in the military to eczema patterns and the link to food allergies to how social media presents information on allergies and asthma.

A wide range of media outlets wrote stories about the meeting. HealthDay, a leading producer and syndicator of evidence-based health news and video for consumers and physicians, posted seven stories. In addition, stories out of the meeting were carried on hundreds of internet news sites, including top news outlets such as US News & World Report, Yahoo! News, MSN, Gizmodo and Everyday Health.

Health care trade press also showed strong interest in the news from our meeting. Healio, a medical website that provides medical news and information for physicians and health care practitioners, posted more than 45 stories. Other health care-focused websites that covered the meeting included Medscape and MedPage Today, who each ran 6-8 stories.

We want to keep the momentum going on social media. Video cameras were rolling at the meeting as the College produced 34 videos for use on our social media sites. Sixteen ACAAI members will be featured in multiple short videos (under 3 minutes) that cover a wide range of patient-facing issues. Questions were answered about everyday topics such as reducing pollen exposure, the importance of vaccines for those with asthma, how venom immunotherapy works and the upcoming introduction of sublingual epinephrine. The videos will be posted weekly to our Instagram, Threads and Facebooks accounts, so look for them there and consider sharing to your own social media platforms. The new videos also will be added to our growing collection on our YouTube channel. This content is available for you, our members, to share with your patients and communities.
