We understand that the tragedy of Hurricane Helene has affected our entire country. We stand with all of our members and their families who were in the path of this devastating event, as well as health care facilities that are struggling in the aftermath. As teams and troops mobilize to restore and assist these hard-hit communities, our hearts are with all of you during this time of recovery.
The College is committed to providing information and resources to assist allergists in the region.
CMS has special assistance in place due to the magnitude of the hurricane damage:
Supply issues:
- We know that some of you may be concerned about supplies of necessary medical items manufactured in the southeast region. We have been assured by our contacts at Stallergenes Greer that, although their plant was in the storm’s path, it did not experience any flooding or physical damage. Thorough inspections and adherence to regulatory protocols are underway to ensure that the company’s products remain unaffected.
- We will pass along any additional information regarding the supply chain as appropriate.
Regulatory flexibilities by state:
- Check your state health department website and the CMS website to learn about flexibilities that are in place to help ease delivery of medical care during this time.
- Resources & Flexibilities to Assist with the Public Health Emergency in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, & South Carolina
- If you are a physician or advanced practice provider who wants to volunteer, check the state’s medical board website for emergency licensing waivers. It is advised to check with local disaster officials before volunteering.
- Emergency licensure for disaster relief (ncmedboard.org)
The College will continue to monitor information for physicians and other health care professionals as the recovery progresses.
