The Advocacy Council works for you

The Advocacy Council has been exceedingly busy in the first quarter of 2023. In our advocacy efforts, we’ve worked independently and with like-minded medical coalitions on important issues that affect allergy practices. Here are some highlights:

  • Urged Congressional action for an annual inflation-based physician payment update based on the full Medicare Economic Index.
  • Supported Prior Authorization reform.
  • Recommended that CMS develop alternative payment models with realistic and attainable incentives.
  • Supported increased funding for antimicrobial resistance research.
  • Submitted comments on the Allergy/Immunology Specialty Measures set and the MVP Pulmonary Measure.
  • Submitted comments on the FDA notice regarding front-of-the package labels, raising concerns about the use of “non-dairy” and “dairy free” labels that can be misleading for milk allergy patients.
  • Opposed the addition of sesame in previously sesame-free products to the American Baker’s Association.
  • Supported a request to Congress for increased food allergy research funding in fiscal year 2024.
  • Supported the funding request for the CDC’s National Asthma Control Program.
  • Responded to HHS’ request for information on the Healthcare Workforce.
  • Submitted comments along with AAAAI expressing concern over FDA safety labeling changes for food allergen extracts.
  • Supported the AMA’s Physician Practice Information Survey. This AMA initiative will launch in June and is fully supported by the College. It is essential that College members participate. The practice-cost data collected will be used to advocate in support of physicians to accurately represent your practice, patients, and profession.
