Did you or your practice receive payments from drug companies, device manufacturers or group purchasing organizations in 2017? These payments may have been for research activities, gifts, speaking fees, meals or travel. If so, check out the Open Payments Program, a provision of the Affordable Care Act which requires the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to collect and publicly report this data. You have until May 15 to review and dispute 2017 data before it becomes public.
We encourage you to review the data attributed to you to make sure it is accurate. Viewing the data will also help you plan for questions you may receive from patients about your financial relationships with these entities. Some practices, for example, participate in clinical research studies with pharmaceutical companies. Payments associated with these studies will appear under the Associated Research category. The Open Payments System currently displays information from 2016 and will be updated to display 2017 information on June 30.
To review the data, you must first register with the CMS Enterprise Portal and then the separate Open Payments system. Get more information on the registration process.
Note that CMS does not mediate disputes. You must work directly with the reporting entities to resolve disputes.
