Congratulations to Susan Bailey, MD, FACAAI, on her inauguration last night as president of the American Medical Association (AMA)! Dr. Bailey is a long-time College fellow, former member of the Board of Regents and former speaker of the College House of Delegates.
Dr. Bailey was inaugurated via videoconference of the 2020 AMA Special Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates. Her election marks the third consecutive woman to be elected to president, making AMA history. In her acceptance speech, she said, “I’m so honored to carry the mantle of leadership for this organization I’ve been proud to serve for 40 years.” She acknowledged effects COVID-19 has had on the medical profession and vowed for AMA advocacy at the highest levels. Dr. Bailey acknowledged the important role in her career of specialty medical societies, including the College.
We are excited to have an allergist as AMA president, look forward to seeing her serve the physician community in this important capacity and wish Dr. Bailey much success in her new role.
