2022 HOD Summary and 2023 Plans

2022 HOD Summary and 2023 Plans

Regional Town Hall Meetings
Representation by the College’s House of Delegates (HOD) is divided into six U.S. regions – led by six super-delegates. Each super-delegate hosted a town hall meeting for their region during the past year. The HOD network discussed the outcomes of the meetings, and all felt they built community among the attendees and offered an outlet for voicing concerns. The small group discussions covered various topics that affected participants in their practices, and the open discussions were supported unilaterally.

We’ll be hosting the Regional Town Hall meetings again in 2023. Dates are still being decided, but the Southeast Region’s meeting will be held in June and the New England Region’s meeting will be in August. Watch the College Insider newsletter for more details and/or check our website.

Call for State Delegates
The call for state delegates launched Jan. 16. Are you interested? Learn more about the delegate job description and responsibilities. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28 for state delegates from Alaska, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Wyoming.

Planning Committees
We want to be sure the state delegates are prepared and have everything they need to advocate on behalf of you and the College. With that in mind, we’re planning a webinar for the state delegates in June. It will include an overview of the job and provide the tools they’ll need to be an allergy advocate.

During the College’s 2023 Annual Meeting (this year in Anaheim, CA), the HOD will be hosting two separate programs. Friday, Nov. 10 is the HOD’s Annual Town Hall Meeting. All College members are welcome. There will be a brief business meeting followed by interesting and educational presentations.

In addition, for the first time this year, the HOD will be supporting a state delegate training session during the Annual Meeting. This brief training will provide our state delegates with tools to help them be great advocates. It’s a session for new and current advocates interested in refreshing their skills.

Quarterly Virtual Calls
The HOD hosts virtual quarterly meetings with the state delegates. It’s the perfect opportunity for delegates to bring issues, problems or projects from their local allergists to the HOD. We can provide advice to resolve a situation, often before it has a broader impact. If you need help with an issue affecting your practice, contact your state, super-delegate or HOD officer.

AMA Membership
The AMA advocates at the state and federal levels on key health care issues impacting physicians and patients. Allergy is a small, sub-specialty in the world of medicine, and our voice is amplified when we partner with the AMA.

While the College has its own House of Delegates, the AMA also has a House of Delegates made up of representatives from medical societies. The College is a member of the AMA’s HOD – a piece of the partnership allowing us to advocate with that bigger voice – for issues important to allergy. The AMA requires each specialty within the AMA HOD, to meet certain criteria. As one of the requirements, at least 20% of College members must also hold AMA membership. Keep our voice strong – join or renew your AMA membership today!
