UnitedHealthcare to mandate electronic fund transfer payments

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) Insurance recently issued a new claims payment policy allowing for fast, easy reimbursement payments. The new policy will be phased in throughout the remainder of 2020 and eliminates paper checks. Practices will be required to accept electronic fund transfer (EFT) payments. The new process will increase cash flow and enable practices to track payment information online. If your practice already receives payments through UHC’s Optum Pay, no action is required.

Starting this month, UHC will target its commercial business coverage providers with a marketing campaign urging enrollment in its EFT program. Later in the fall, UHC will move its campaign to the Medicare Advantage plans and in 2021 to its Community and Medicaid plans. Practices rejecting the move will receive “virtual” credit cards as payment and will incur credit card merchant fees.

For more information, review the enrollment guides and/or join UHC’s EFT program. The Advocacy Council – we have you covered.
