Committee in the spotlight: Practice Management

The Practice Management Committee is a great example of what can be accomplished by a committee when its volunteer members and staff work together collaboratively. The Telehealth Task Force, which is a subset of the Practice Management Committee, developed the “ACAAI: Position Paper on the Use of Telemedicine for Allergists,” which will be published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology before the end of 2017. The development of this paper was led by two members of the task force, and all task force members contributed to the content and review during task force meetings and through electronic communication.

In addition, the Practice Management Committee developed a successful partnership with the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) to collect allergy-specific practice cost and revenue data, which up to now has been sorely lacking. The College Practice Management Manager’s membership in MGMA, in conjunction with committee leadership, led to the College’s partnership with MGMA, the industry leader in collecting practice benchmarking survey data. The Practice Management Committee and MGMA worked jointly to promote the survey and ensure its success. The results, a summary of allergy-specific practice cost and revenue data, were presented to members in the fall issue of College Advantage.

“Practice Management Committee volunteers and leaders, in conjunction with College staff, work collaboratively to accomplish the goals outlined by the Board of Regents at the beginning of each year,” said Stanley Fineman, MD, MBA, FACAAI, chair of the Practice Management Committee. “We start by breaking down our goals into actionable projects, such as identifying specific webinar and educational module topics to develop. We then enlist participation from committee volunteers on those specific projects.”

In large part due to the hard work and dedication of the Practice Management Committee, the College is able to provide members with all the resources they need to strengthen their practice. Learn how the College’s new Practice Management Center can support your needs.
