Boosting your volunteer experience

Do you want to be more involved with your committee, but aren’t sure where to start?  Perhaps you are new to the committee or have not been involved with the College and want to find new ways to contribute. Here a few tips on making the most of your experience:

  • Attend all committee meetings – whether you meet in person, over the phone or online, make an effort to engage with members of your committee. If you are not able to make a meeting, touch base with your chair to see what you have missed and see where you may be able to contribute.
  • Share your insights to expand the conversation – regardless of your level of expertise or position in your career, don’t hesitate to offer your unique perspective.
  • Be pro-active and claim ownership of committee goals/activities – offer to take on a task that relates to your expertise or challenges you to learn something new.

Do you struggle to find your voice? Initiate a phone conversation with your chair to discuss how you can take a more active role in your committee’s activities. This will give you an opportunity to share your background and interests and brainstorm ideas for your involvement.
