Spotlight on committee work amid COVID-19 pandemic

As the world continues to grapple with the spread of the COVID-19, the health care community is faced with unprecedented challenges, including concerns about practices being able to keep their doors open – now and after the pandemic subsides. The College’s committees have stepped up in impressive ways to help guide our members and our patients through these challenging times.

The Practice Management Committee, chaired by Kevin McGrath, MD, FACAAI, has worked with the Advocacy Council, chaired by James Tracy, DO, FACAAI, on a series of town hall-style webinars to address some of the most urgent issues. Recent webinars have covered topics such as telemedicine, practice survival and HR issues – all as they relate to COVID-19. The next webinar, scheduled for tonight (April 23) at 7:00 pm CT, will cover COVID-19 related financial assistance programs, including loans and grants.

“As information about COVID-19 continues to rapidly evolve, it can be overwhelming for busy physicians and their staff to keep up with the latest developments and knowing what assistance is available to help practices stay in business,” said Dr. Tracy. “We wanted to offer a series of online town hall discussions where our experts can share the latest information and answer the most pressing questions. We’ve received a lot of great feedback so far and we’ll continue to cover topics we feel are most important to our members during these difficult times.”

Members of the Asthma Committee, chaired by Jonathan Bernstein, MD, FACAAI, helped to develop timely information on COVID-19 for patients suffering from asthma. We now have a regularly updated page on this topic on the public website, including information on how to distinguish asthma, allergy and COVID-19 symptoms, recommended precautions, videos and links to additional resources. The Committee also assisted with the development of the College’s statement on COVID-19 and asthma.

Many of these resources can be accessed from the College’s COVID-19 resource page.
