Clinically-relevant programming and expert faculty

Start each day of the Annual Meeting with these can’t-miss 90-minute plenary sessions. Learn about the most relevant topics from the leading experts in the field.

Presidential Plenary: Network Studies: Pulling it All Together for Adults and Kids

Nov. 17, 7:30 – 9:30 am: Clinical trials and research networks have identified many breakthroughs in the diagnosis and management of asthma in children and adults. As the body of evidence continues to grow, it is more challenging than ever to take knowledge from these studies and apply it to clinical guidelines, and ultimately implement it into clinical practice. This session will highlight how historical asthma network studies have impacted our understanding of asthma management and offer practical tips on how health care providers can use this information to better inform their patients.

“It’s going to be a session you won’t want to miss, as these top leaders in the field come together to discuss a crucial topic,” said Bradley Chipps, MD, FACAAI, College president. “I selected these experts myself because they know the ins and outs of these studies.”

Practical Applications for Your Office

Nov. 18, 8:00 – 9:30 am: Evidence-based medicine does not always match with patient expectations for their treatment or outcomes. This session will discuss how to adopt shared decision-making into clinical practice. Attendees will learn how to anticipate and overcome challenges involved with shared decision-making and take home a new perspective that can change patient encounters for the better.

Collaborations and Challenges in Clinical Practice

Nov. 19, 8:00 – 9:30 am: Time constraints, electronic medical records and other challenges limit the time that allergists can spend educating their patients. This can be especially challenging in helping patients understand effective self-management strategies for anaphylaxis. The first lecture in this session will discuss the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis. Next up, our lay organization partners will discuss how allergists can partner with them to not only help individual patients receive additional resources to improve their care, but to help with advocacy on a local or national level.

Bernard Berman Memorial Lecture
