If you’re participating in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2018, you need to be aware of some important recent updates.
1. 2018 MIPS quality performance feedback now available for claims data
Clinicians participating in MIPS in 2018 who are submitting their quality performance category data via claims can now review their performance feedback on an ongoing basis. In the past, there was no way to determine how well you were doing until the final score came out a year later. To check your performance, login to the Quality Payment Program website. Performance feedback will be updated monthly.
2. MIPS information about audit documentation is now available
CMS recently released 2018 MIPS data validation criteria (note: this zip file will download to your device), which explains the criteria that will be used to validate data submitted in the MIPS quality, EHR and improvement activities categories. Allergy practices should use this information, which wasn’t previously available, to ensure they are properly documenting their MIPS activities in case of a future audit.
3. Final QRURs and PQRS feedback reports accessible until Dec. 31
2018 is the last payment adjustment year for the Value Modifier (VM) and Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) programs, which have been replaced by MIPS. The payment adjustments applied this year reflect provider performance in 2016. Feedback reports for VM and PQRS will only be available through 2018, so practices who need these reports must download them by Dec. 31.
