Every month, you get a fresh copy of Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology – packed full of cutting-edge clinical research, education and practice information. A lot goes on behind the scenes to bring you this publication every month. And a key player is the editor-in-chief. He works to ensure the journal addresses leading-edge issues, provides leadership and direction for the content, reviews manuscripts, corresponds with authors and reviewers, works with the publisher on editing and production and develop news features to make sure Annals is the best it can possibly be.
Gailen Marshall Jr., MD, PhD, FACAAI, will continue to serve as editor-in-chief through the end of 2017. He will be the first editor to serve three consecutive terms – a total of 12 years! As editor-in-chief, he serves as an ad hoc member of the Board of Regents. His influence and impact in the College cannot be denied. He was honored with the Distinguished Service award in 2007 and named Distinguished Fellow in 2009.
But, change is coming to the College. We put out the call for a new editor-in-chief for Annals, and after carefully vetting each applicant, we are proud to announce our new editor-in-chief, Rohit Katial, MD, FACAAI. Dr. Katial currently serves on the College’s Board of Regents and Publications Committee. He is Professor of Medicine at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO.
“Dr. Katial brings a unique combination of academic rigor and clinical acumen to the editor-in-chief role at Annals,” said Stephen Tilles, MD, FACAAI, president of the College. “He is well-respected in the community of asthma thought leaders, which I think will serve him well when overseeing journal content.”
Dr. Katial is working alongside Dr. Marshall this year, and will take over full-time in January 2018. He is looking forward to the new position. “Dr. Marshall has done a tremendous job with Annals. I am very excited to carry this historic journal, which was founded in the 1940s, into the future, specifically shaping the content as the medical landscape changes in general and within our specialty,” said Dr. Katial. “The most important goal should be providing high-quality content that brings value to the readership in a manner that is consistent with the way medical information is consumed.”
