In COVID-19 issues, Advocacy Council is working for allergists

The Advocacy Council works on many different fronts to bring the best results to allergy and allergists/immunologists. We applaud CMS’ ongoing actions by providing regulatory flexibilities through the duration of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).  We’ve taken the following COVID-19 actions on your behalf:

Biologics

Texas Allergy Society reported hesitancy on the part of patients receiving biologics and IVIG, to continue their therapy treatments in hospital settings, due to exposure to COVID-19. We took immediate action requesting CMS allow hospitals to send the necessary drugs to the allergists’ office, where they can be administered in an environment where patients are less anxious.

Emergency Funding

The Advocacy Council commends the government for the quick action it’s taken to help support practicing physicians. We’ve requested more funding in the Phase IV stimulus package to further support you during these unprecedented times. (4/14)

Telephone Coverage

In mid-March, we requested CMS include telephone calls as a covered benefit . More recently, we’ve requested reimbursement for telephone calls with E&M parity.

We continue to provide regular Federal Updates on legislation related to COVID-19.
