The College has updated its Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) toolkit for 2018, and you can now find everything you need to know about MIPS in one place. Whether you’re looking to do the bare minimum to avoid a penalty or working to achieve a maximum bonus, the MIPS toolkit has you covered!
The good news for 2018 is that more allergy practices will be exempt from MIPS due to expansion of the low volume exclusion. You’re exempt if you (or your group if you report as a group) bill $90,000 or less in Medicare Part B allowed charges OR see 200 or fewer Medicare patients per year. Be sure to check the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) online tool to see whether you must participate in 2018. All you need is your National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Some of the other key MIPS changes for 2018 include:
- New advantages for small practices (those with less than 16 MIPS-eligible clinicians).
- An increase in the reporting requirements to avoid a penalty.
- A change in category weights for Quality (from 60% to 50%) and Cost (from 0% to 10%).
- Maximum penalty or bonus increases from +/- 4% in 2019 to +/- 5% in 2020.
- An increase in the required reporting period for Quality and Cost to a full year.
If you reported in 2017, preliminary 2017 MIPS performance feedback data is now available at the Quality Payment Program website. Final scores and feedback data will be posted in July. You’ll need your Enterprise Identity Management (EIDM) credentials to login.
