The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) mandates that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) create the Physician Compare website. The purpose of this website is to allow patients to make informed decisions about their health care provider by comparing scores on various Medicare quality reporting initiatives.
On October 18, CMS opened the 30-Day health professional preview period for the review of information that will be made publicly available starting in December. Due to a technical problem, the data did not display properly in the Provider Quality Information Portal. The preview was scheduled to end on November 17.
CMS has informed the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology that due to the display problems, CMS is extending the Provider Quality Information Portal preview period through Friday, December 1st at 8:00 pm ET.
This will provide allergists and other health professionals additional time to preview their data.
This review period is an opportunity for you to see what your patients or prospective patients will see if they visit Physician Compare.
It is also an opportunity to see if the practice information on the site is correct. It is not unusual for some of the information collected by CMS to have errors that need correcting. A health professional may have left a practice or added a specialty, for example, and this information should be updated.
You are encouraged to visit the Provider Quality Information Portal on the physician compare website to preview your data.
Please note that to enter the preview portal, you must have an Enterprise Identity Management (EIDM) account and appropriate user role to access the Provider Quality Information Portal. If you previously set up an EIDM account but have not accessed the account for some time, it may be dormant due to lack of activity.
CMS encourages you to verify that you have an active EIDM account – with the correctly identified user roles – as quickly as possible.
