How our Advocacy Council is working for you

Nov. 18, 2018

On Saturday morning, during our 2018 Annual Meeting, attendees got some important updates about government regulations affecting allergists, as well as tips on how to code correctly. The session, Advocacy Council Coding and Government Regulations Update, featured speakers from the College’s Advocacy Council who put in an incredible amount of work to fight for allergists and their patients. Allen Meadows, MD, FACAAI, was excited to share positive updates with attendees about the progress the Advocacy Council has made on several key issues. "In the last few weeks, because of our continuing advocacy, we have received good news from the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” he said. “We reached a favorable resolution with USP about the compounding of allergen extracts in-office. CMS released a new proposed draft of the 2019 Physician Fee Schedule that fixes many of the issues we raised, and we also reached a favorable resolution with the FDA on their Guidance on Insanitary Conditions related to compounding.”
