House approves increased funding for food allergy research

June 14, 2019

We'd like to share some great news related to our advocacy efforts. Yesterday, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology received a personal note from the office of Representative Ro Khanna thanking us for our support and promotion of his proposal to increase funding for food allergy research.  He wanted to let us know that because of our advocacy efforts and those of others, the House, by a vote of 356-68, approved his amendment to add $3 million to the budget of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases with the intent to support the Consortium of Food Allergy Research.

When Representative Khanna first approached the College a few months ago about his idea to increase funding for food allergy research, we wholeheartedly endorsed his efforts.  The Advocacy Council, College and multiple other organizations sent a letter to the leadership of the Appropriations Committee encouraging them to support his initiative.  We are pleased that those efforts have paid off.  Our attention will now turn to the Senate to get them to match or exceed what Representative Khanna has accomplished in the House.
